One look for all of my bridesmaids
Q. My three bridesmaids couldn't be more different looks-wise. One has blonde hair and very light skin, one has black hair and dark skin and the other is a redhead who always has a gorgeous golden tan in the summer. I want them to all look and feel fabulous at my August, 2011 wedding, but trying to fi nd a colour that will suit each of them is proving to be really tricky. Is there a one-colour-suits-all solution, or should I let them wear a suitable shade of the same colour... or shall I just give up and let them wear the same style dress in a colour that suits? The most important thing for me is that they feel confident and happy. What do you suggest?
A. Helena Tobitt says: There's no need to panic, there are so many beautiful, stylish gowns available in an array of colours, whether you want something subtle or bold. I would advise keeping your bridesmaids in the same style gown, and to go for warm, neutral tones as they are likely to suit each of the girls' skin tones and hair colours. You can then bring everything together by adding a sash in your colour scheme. |

Love my body; hate my arms
Q. I am 5ft 11ins and a size 18. I know I'm far from petite, but I really love my hourglass figure. I want to show it off, but I also want to look feminine and demure. The only part of my body I'm not keen on is the tops of my arms. Do you have any suggestions for the style of gown that I should go for to show off my good bits and cover the bad? I'm completely open to any suggestions.
A. Helena Tobitt says: My advice would be to look at a lace-up gown in either a luxury taffeta or chiffon, with diagonal draping and a slight A-line skirt. The luxury taffeta and chiffon fabrics are ideal as they create soft ruching without bulkiness. The lace-up gown will accentuate your curves, unlike a dress with a zip, which has no movement. The diagonal draping will add softness and shape, and would be complemented by soft embellishment for a beautifully feminine bridal gown. The neckline is dependant on your bust size. For the fuller bust you can go for an off-the-shoulder scooped neckline which will give you support and cover for your arms, or you could go for a soft sweetheart neckline and add a lace bolero jacket for a feminine finish. |
